A Palo Alto woman was killed when she was struck by a truck in Menlo Park Feb. 29. Norma Metzner, 75, stepped out of her car after it was struck slightly in traffic by a tractor-trailer rig on El Camino Real near Ravenswood Avenue, Commander Steve Lewis said. The truck then moved ahead in traffic, but the driver may not have seen Metzner, Lewis said. No charges have been filed, and the accident is still under investigation.

Menlo Park police arrested an East Palo Alto man Feb. 28 after a home invasion robbery. Oscar Sanchez, 25, was arrested after three men broke into a home in the 2500 block of Carleton Avenue at 1 a.m., according to Commander Steve Lewis. Police seized $50,000 worth of methamphetamine and recovered a shotgun. A man who lives in the house, Roman Hernandez, 25, was beaten with the shotgun during the robbery, Lewis said. The other two men escaped. Sanchez was booked on charges of home invasion robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, and on an outstanding $10,000 narcotics warrant. Hernandez was booked on charges of possession of narcotics for sale.

A Menlo Park man had a shotgun fired into his living room window Feb. 20 when he refused to give up his wallet to two thieves. Sgt. Larry Shannon said that John Lofgen had driven up to his house in the 1000 block of Cloud Avenue at 11:22 p.m. when two men drove up in another car and demanded his wallet. When Lofgen refused to hand it over, one of the men fired a shotgun into his house, and then the two men immediately left, Shannon said.

A man was shot and wounded in Menlo Park Feb. 24. Michael Smith, 19, was found wounded in the 1100 block of Sevier Avenue after residents called to report a shooting, Sgt. Chris Boyd said. Smith was taken to Stanford Hospital, where he was in stable condition. Boyd said that witnesses reported an argument between Smith and other men before the shots were fired. The case is under investigation.
