An East Palo Alto man was shot and killed in Menlo Park on Oct. 29. Fidel Murillo, 22, was found at 8:35 p.m. in a house at 234 Terminal Ave. and died a short time later at Stanford Hospital. Menlo Park Police Cmdr. Dominick Peloso said police believe they know who the suspect is, but they are not releasing his name until they can find him and talk with him. The suspect was seen leaving the house where the shooting happened just before police arrived. Murillo, who knew the suspect, was visiting him and other friends when the shooting occurred.

One East Palo Alto man was arrested and another is being sought in a forgery scheme. Morson Smith, 47, was arrested Oct. 26 and charged with forgery after police found stolen checks and stolen and altered identifications, said Sgt. Don O'Keefe of the East Palo Alto Regional Investigative Bureau. Smith told police he would receive stolen checks and IDs and then alter them to get the checks cashed, O'Keefe said, as a part of a forgery ring operating in Alameda, San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Charles Griffin, 60, of East Palo Alto, is being sought for questioning in the case. Police say Griffin is on parole for forgery and is considered a parolee at large, with a warrant pending for his arrest.

Palo Alto and other police conducted a traffic check on commercial trucks Nov. 2, issuing 29 tickets for vehicle code violations. Palo Alto Sgt. John Costa said the trucks were stopped on Embarcadero and San Antonio roads, with 31 trucks inspected in a four-hour period. Three of the trucks were placed out of operation where they were stopped until repairs could be made. The violations included excess weight, faulty brakes, exhaust system leaks and log book violations. The safety check team also included officers from Menlo Park, East Palo Alto, Redwood City, Milpitas, San Jose, Sunnyvale and the California Highway Patrol.
