OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College men's wrestling team had a busy weekend, competing in five dual meets and the Menlo Invitational. Senior Joe Garcia walked away with three dual-meet victories and the Invitational championship in his weight class. He recorded the only win in a 36-3 loss to Division I Boise State on Friday in Fresno. The Oaks also lost to Fresno State, 33-13. At Sunday's Invitational, Garcia had just nine points scored against him in four bouts on his way to the title. He beat Great Falls' Nick Budeski, 3-2, in the championship match. At Saturday's Menlo Duals in Atherton, a 6-4 decision by senior heavyweight Ben Flores in the last match gave Menlo a 21-18 win over Indianapolis. The Oaks fell to the University of Great Falls (Mont.), ranked second nationally by the NAIA, 25-16, before finishing the competition with a 33-12 defeat of Montclair. Menlo travels to Ashland to meet host Southern Oregon on Thursday at 7 p.m. . . . The Menlo College women's wrestling team lost three times at Friday's Lady Oaks Duals, which were held at Kennedy Middle School in Redwood City. The Oaks fell to Pacific University, 26-5, in the opening dual. Sophomore Jade Prudent recorded Menlo's lone victory; a 4-2, 1-6, 2-0 decision over Brenna Larkin at 67 Kg. Menlo also lost to Simon Fraser, 28-6, and Lassen, 30-5. Freshmen J'aime Sage and Sasha Avila earned fall victories at 59 Kg and 63 Kg, respectively, against Lassen . . . Sophomore Zack Peck scored a season-high 16 points and the Menlo College men's basketball team won its season-best third game consecutive game with a 76-44 victory over visiting Pacific Union last Thursday. The Oaks (4-3, 10-5) travel to William Jessup on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff . . . The No. 12 Menlo College women's basketball team had its second-best defensive showing in program history -- and matched a record for consecutive victories at six -- in a 69-14 win against visiting Pacific Union last Thursday. Kelci Fushikoshi led Menlo with 17 points while senior Arpi Babakhanyan added 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Oaks (6-1, 12-3) are in Rocklin on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. contest with William Jessup.

SOCCER TRYOUTS . . . The Palo Alto Soccer Club is holding open tryouts on Saturdays running through Feb. 12 for Class 1 and Class 3 boys and girls U-10 and U-14 at the Cubberley Community Center fields.
