OAKS' REPORT . . . Menlo College freshman guard Tim Kees scored a season-high 20 points and played an important role as the Oaks defeated visiting Cal State Maritime, 81-60, on Tuesday night in a California Pacific Conference men's basketball game. Kees, who played 18 minutes, made the most of his time coming off the bench. He hit a 3-pointer that gave Menlo (3-3, 9-5) a double-digit lead less than six minutes into the game. He was 6of-11 from the field, including a 5-of-7 effort from long range. Senior James Gilkey added 14 points and freshman Israel Torres had 10. The Oaks were scheduled to host Pacific Union on Thursday night . . . Freshman guard Kelci Fushikoshi scored a career-high 17 points and senior forward Arpi Babakhanyan added a season-high 16 as No. 12 Menlo beat visiting Cal State Maritime, 70-24, on Tuesday. The Oaks (5-1, 11-3) held the Keelhaulers to eight points in the second half in winning their fifth straight and improving to 9-0 at home. A win over Pacific Union on Thursday would have tied the school mark for consecutive victories. The last time Menlo won six in a row was during the 1999-2000 season.

SOCCER TRYOUTS . . . The Palo Alto Soccer Club is holding open tryouts beginning Saturday and running through Feb. 12 for Class 1 and Class 3 boys and girls U-10 and U-14 at Cubberly fields.
