LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION? . . . Two Menlo Park women, Jen Novak and Chrissie Kremer, have published "Personal Shopper: A Top Personal Shopper Reveals Her Sources & Secrets." The purse-sized guide offers suggestions for local shopping for the home (from window treatments to flea markets) and services (closet organizers to upholsterers), as well as fashion. Included are suggestions for shopping trips with visiting in-laws, your best friend or a personal day by yourself. The guide, which sells for $19.95, is available online at www.personalshopperguide.com or at a few local stores, including Home & Garden and Calla in Menlo Park, Emily Joubert/In Any Event in Woodside, Cottage Green and Birch in Los Altos, and Books Inc. in Stanford Shopping Center. A portion of the proceeds will be allocated to the Foundation for Autistic Children Education and Support (FACES), a Redwood City-based organization (www.facesforkids.org).

PITFALLS AND POTENTIAL . . . Local real estate brokers Elaine Berlin White and Don Diltz will teach a class called "Residential Real Estate: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" on five Tuesdays, Jan. 10-Feb. 7, from 7 to 8:50 p.m. through Stanford Continuing Studies Program. Designed for individual investors, homeowners, prospective homeowners and people considering going into the real-estate field, the class will cover such topics as financing, property valuation, title issues, mandatory disclosures, staging, marketing and special issues for seniors. Fee for the one-unit class is $255. Registration begins Dec. 12, via the Web at continuingstudies.Stanford.edu. For information, call (650) 725-2650.

REUSABLE? . . . Reusable items may now be taken to the Goodwill Trailer at the Palo Alto Recycling Center, daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Housewares, such as dishes, pots and pans, blankets, sheets, bedspreads and small appliances are acceptable, but the center will not take large appliances, carpeting, waterbeds, mattresses, strollers or baby carriages. The center is located at 2380 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto.
