BREAKING UP ... When Rebecca Agewich broke up with her boyfriend, she started a blog "Breakup Babe" that grew popular. Now, the Seattle writer has penned a novel by with same name about getting dumped by her boyfriend. The novel is due out in the spring and her mom, Eve Agewich of the Palo Alto Human Relations Commission, is understandably proud. Rebecca is a Gunn graduate and wrote a weekly column for the old Peninsula Times Tribune when she was 17.
DOING SCHOOL RIGHT ... Former San Jose Mercury News education writer and longtime Palo AltanJoanne Jacobs has written "Our School: The Inspiring Story of Two Teachers, One Big Idea, and the School that Beat the Odds." It's the story of Downtown College Prep, a charter school in San Jose.
MORE SCHOOL STUFF ... John Schacter of Palo Alto has written "Grading Your Teacher: A Parent's Guide to Quality Teaching." A former elementary school teacher, Schacter designs teacher evaluations and training systems. His book shows parents how to evaluate their child's teachers.
AUTHOR, AUTHOR ... Author events at Books Inc. in Mountain View this month include Po Bronson ("Why Do I Love These People?: Honest and Amazing Stories of Real Families") at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Bronson is also the author the highly entertaining "The Nudist on the Late Shift: And Other True Stories of Silicon Valley."
