Paly set for CCS grid semis Paly set for CCS grid semis (November 25, 2005)

Palo Alto High football coach Earl Hansen is well aware of the fact that Terra Nova is averaging 46 points over its past four games.

And Terra Nova (7-4) will be lining up against Palo Alto (9-2) on Saturday night at Foothill College in a Central Coast Section Medium School Division semifinal at 7 p.m.

Hansen isn't too concerned about the Tigers' high-scoring average. He's more worried about what his team will do.

"They have two good running backs," Hansen said of Terra Nova's backfield. "If we can control them, and we should, we should be OK. If we can move the ball on the ground, we'll be fine."

Paly had one of its best running attacks of the season last week as the Vikings gained 198 yards during a 33-26 overtime win over South San Francisco. Paly has a big offensive line that should cause problems for Terra Nova.

"They're going to have a problem matching up with us," Hansen said.

Paly got a career game from junior Will Frazier last week and Hansen certainly wouldn't mine seeing the speedy running back gain another 163 yards, like he did against South San Francisco.

On the defensive side of the ball, Hansen believes Terra Nova could have problems if forced to throw.

Hansen's main concern, however, could be momentum. The Tigers definitely have that after starting out 1-4.

"They're definitely on a roll," Hansen said.

Saturday's winner will advance to the CCS finals the following weekend, likely against top-seeded Los Gatos.
