"Disney's Beauty and the Beast" combines the age-old fairy tale with songs from the 1991 Disney movie. "Higher Ground," Warren Miller's action-filled ski movie, features feats of daring performed by legendary athletes such as big-mountain skiers Jeremy Nobis and Seth Morrison, and stunning photography. Nudes and landscapes are the subjects of photographer and Stanford alum William Carter, in the inaugural exhibition, "New Work and Some Classics," on display through Dec. 31 at Coupa Cosas and Coupa Cafe at 536 and 538 Ramona Street in Palo Alto. "The Boy Friend," a romantic spoof of 1920's musical comedy, portrays young love in the Jazz Age. "The Selfish Giant," based on a story by Oscar Wilde, is the story of a giant who won't share his garden until a child melts his heart. Performed by Peninsula Youth Theatre Stories on Stage. Art Show at Peter Coutts, an exhibition and sale of watercolor prints by Jacqueline Fogel, includes scenes of New York City and views from Peter Coutts hill. Show is from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Peter Coutts Clubhouse at Stanford University.
"Double Visions," a concert comprised of works for double chorus performed by Cantabile Chorale, includes works by Brahms, Schumann and American composer William Hawley. Martin's "Mass for Double Choir" is the centerpiece of the performance. Performance is at 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 625 Hamilton Ave. (at Webster), Palo Alto.
