POP WARNER PLAYOFFS . . . For the first time ever, the Palo Alto Knights will advance two teams to the Peninsula Conference Pop Warner Championships this Saturday. The Pee Wee team (10-12 year olds) qualified after an impressive 28-0 victory over Santa Clara at Townsend Field in Santa Clara on Saturday. The Jr. Midgets (11-13 year olds) defeated West Bay (San Bruno) 22-14 on Sunday at Castlemont High in Oakland. The Championship games will be played at Woodside High on Saturday. The Pee Wee's kick off at 2 p.m. against undefeated Oak Grove followed by the Jr. Midgets at 4 p.m., also against Oak Grove. The winners will advance to the Pacific Northwest Regional Championship the following week. The Pee Wees (8-1) got rolling quickly in last weekend's win as Tywaun Livingston returning the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. Jamari Beverly scored on a five-yard run, Jackie Evans intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for a score and Jordan Piha threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Cannon. The Knights' defense only allowed Santa Clara 50 yards of total offense as linebackers Austin Braff, Mosa Likio, Piha and Evans sparked the defense along with Cameron Moody and Todd Grimm. The Jr. Midgets (8-1) were led by quarterback Devante Adams, who scored on an eight-yard run and threw a 10-yard pass to Romel Hanks. Palo Alto's Dominique Cole sealed the victory with a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:00 remaining in the game. The Knights' strong running game was sparked by Cole, Adams, Brandon Bradford and Melvin Bellard. Defensive standouts were Gabe Manzaneres, Bennie Williams and James Berry.
