Weekly promotes reporter to associate editor position
Weekly promotes reporter to associate editor position
(November 04, 2005) Predecessor to become managing editor of San Mateo County Times
Jennifer Aquino, the Weekly's associate editor for nearly three years, has been named managing editor of the San Mateo County Times, a longtime daily newspaper serving San Mateo County.
She will be replaced by Senior Writer Jocelyn Dong, who for the past 18 months has covered land use and development issues.
Dong also will assume duties as coordinator of the Weekly's highly regarded journalism internship program, of which she was once a participant, Weekly Editor Jay Thorwaldson announced Thursday. She joined the Weekly staff in 1998.
"We are sad to lose Jennifer, and will miss her professionalism and assistance in the news operation -- and miss her as a person," Thorwaldson said.
He added the Weekly is lucky to have a solid replacement in Dong, who held an array of positions since joining the paper -- including a stint as acting editor of the Weekly's sister paper, the Mountain View Voice. She has won statewide and regional awards for cover stories and articles.
Dong also has edited the Weekly's monthly Neighborhoods section for several years. Prior to taking on the Palo Alto beat duties, she was one of two "special sections" editors, working with Assistant Editor Carol Blitzer to produce the INFO, Living Well and other special publication.
"I can think of no one better qualified to follow in Jennifer's footsteps and continue the excellence she has brought to that position," Thorwaldson said.
