OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College men's soccer team had its season extended when the Oaks (11-6-1) were invited into the NAIA Region II playoffs as an at-large pick. The Menlo women's soccer team earned an automatic bid into postseason after securing the California Pacific Conference championship. The eighth-seeded men's team travel to top-seeded, and sixth-ranked, Azusa Pacific on Wednesday at 1 p.m. "We're peaking at the right time," Menlo coach Len Renery said. "Hopefully we can carry that momentum into the playoffs." The Menlo women were scheduled to host Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon. The Oaks (13-4-1) are making their first-ever playoff appearance. "Every year we've tried to set the mark higher and higher for the program and this is just another chance to raise the bar," Menlo coach Owen Flannery said. "We would like this to be the standard for us." Menlo and Point Loma played to a scoreless draw in San Diego on Sept. 9. "Point Loma is the best team we've played this season," Flannery said. "We're excited for the opportunity to play them again." . . . The Menlo College football team dropped a 38-7 decision to undefeated and top-ranked Linfield College, 38-7, in a nonconference football game in Atherton on Saturday. Menlo junior quarterback Adam Hazel completed 15 of 40 passes for 201 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Arsel Hopkins. Menlo wide receiver Eddie Eyo caught nine passes for 115 yards. The Oaks (0-8) travel to Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma, Wash. On Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team beat visiting Bethany, 30-23, 30-23, 30-17, in a California Pacific Conference contest on Saturday night. Sanoe' Eselu and Malia Pires each recorded 16 kills for the Oaks (10-1, 14-6). Gloria Magana and Kari Shimomura each had 11 kills. Libero Christa Hewett had 33 digs. Menlo hosts William Jessup University on Friday at 7 p.m. . . . The Menlo College men's cross country team finished fourth at the Cal Pac Conference championships on Friday in Angwin, Calif. Craig Ryan led Menlo with an 18th-place finish in 34:25 on the 8,000 meter course . . . The Menlo College men's wrestling team begins its season on Saturday, hosting the Menlo Open beginning at 9 a.m. The Oaks enter the season as the nation's seventh-ranked team in the NAIA . . . The Menlo College men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Cal Pac Conference by the coaches.

OF LOCAL NOTE . . . The Menlo Park Strikers' FC girls' 10-Under soccer team is looking for experienced players for the upcoming fall season. Leagues are accepting complete teams, and individuals can be placed on a free agent list. Palo Alto is also looking for coaches for the middle school athletics program.
