USTA PRO CIRCUIT . . . Stanford product Lilia Osterloh lost in the finals, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, to top-seeded Kristina Brandi in the San Francisco Tennis Classic at the Golden Gateway Tennis and Swim Club. Osterloh began her journey into the championship match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over Stanford senior Amber Liu, who was entered as a wild card. Stanford grad Teryn Ashley lost in the second round, while Stanford grad Lauren Barnikow lost to Tara Snyder in the qualifying round.


OAKS CORNER . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team used a lot of defense and just enough hitting ability to earn its sixth straight victory, beating host Pacific Union, 30-21, 30-25, 30-21, on Sunday. The Oaks (8-0, 12-4) limited Pacific Union to a .144 hitting percentage and recorded 62 digs. Krista Catian led the way with 13 digs, followed by Kari Shimomura with 11 and Malia Pires with 10. Junior outside hitter Sanoe' Eselu recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Menlo plays at Cal State East bay on Wednesday at 7 p.m. . . . The Menlo College men's soccer had three players each score a goal in a 3-0 victory over host Pacific Union on Friday. Armando San Vincente, Gary Hodgson and Caglar Vural each scored for the Oaks (2-1-1, 8-5-1), who outshot the Pioneers, 26-5. Menlo goalie Jarin Beck recorded five saves. The Oaks play at Bethany on Wednesday . . . Menlo senior Alfonso Paez finished 14th to lead the Oaks men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Mills College Invitational on Friday. Freshman Shareese Mulholland finished 11th for the Menlo women, who placed fourth.

COACHING CORNER . . . Palo Alto High is looking for girls' varsity and JV soccer coaches for the 2005-06 winter season. Those interested should contact Paly Athletic Director Earl Hansen at 329-3886. Palo Alto's new baseball coach, Joel Kaufman, is looking for assistant coaches for both the varsity and JV teams in addition to a head JV coach. He can be reached at palybaseball@pacbell.net . . . OF LOCAL NOTE . . . The Menlo Park Strikers' FC girls' 10-Under soccer team is looking for experienced players for the upcoming fall season. Leagues are accepting complete teams, and individuals can be placed on a free agent list. Palo Alto is also looking for coaches for the middle school athletics program.
