Annette B. Barnard
Annette B. Barnard, a Menlo Park resident of nearly 15 years, died Aug. 22 in her sleep.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Mildred T. and Emile L. R. Bilodeau, she spent much of her childhood living in various cities including Austin, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas; New Orleans, La.; Bremerton, Wash.; and eventually Honolulu, Hawaii, where Emile was the U.S. Department of Labor's chief representative for the state.
It was in Hawaii that she met "Bud" Barnard, whom she married in June 1949. Two years later, in June 1951, she completed her bachelor's degree in education at Boston University. She continued traveling as Bud's career took the couple to India and Peru, but in this latter stop she contracted polio. The couple retreated to Los Angeles, where she recuperated almost fully.
Her cooking was well-known among her circle in Menlo Park, but she also won renown as an experienced reading and writing tutor for young people.
She is survived by her husband, Bud Barnard.
Carolyn Rasch Cirimele
Carolyn Rasch Cirimele, 48, a resident of Mountain View, died Sept. 20.
Carolyn was born Feb. 9, 1957 to John and Adele Rasch in Manhasset, N.Y. She spent most of her childhood in Manlius, N.Y. until her parents moved to Burlingame, Calif. when she was in junior high school. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1975 and went to California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, where she earned her bachelor's degree in graphic communications. She met her husband Ed Cirimele in college. They were married in August 1980. Carolyn and Ed lived in Mountain View for 24 years where they raised two sons. From 1992-1998 she was the music teacher and lead the children's chorus at Peninsula School in Menlo Park. She sang and played piano, cello, accordion, guitar and upright bass in a number of Bluegrass and Contra Dance bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. Carolyn was a songwriter, writing and producing two solo albums, "Looking for Idda Rose" and "Which One is Real." She was a self-employed graphic artist, also.
She is survived by her mother, Adele Rasch of Carmel; husband Ed Cirimele; sons Jesse and Jason Cirimele of Mountain View; sisters Claudia James and Charlene Revette of DeRuyter, N.Y.; brother David Rasch of Portola Valley; and brother Steven Rasch of Pacific Palisades.
A memorial gathering will be held Oct. 29 at the Peninsula School in Menlo Park. For more information call The Paul Mortuary at 831-375-4191.
Jane Frasier-Smith
Jane Frasier-Smith, longtime Palo Alto resident, died Sept. 29 in Sunnyvale.
He was born Oct. 16, 1925 in Greeley, Colo. to George Willard Frasier and his wife Rhea Thompson. She attended school in the laboratory school that was then Colorado State College of Education, now University of Northern Colorado. She was active in drama and music, playing both violin and piano. She entered Stanford University in the fall of 1943 and received a bachelor's degree in humanities in 1947 and a master's degree in music education in 1949. She was active in music and theater and a member of Ram's Head and the Band.
Jane taught at Castilleja School, Palo Alto High School and in the Mountain View school district. She was musical director of Palo Alto Light Opera, worked with the Palo Alto Children's Theater and Palo Alto Players, sang in the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and freelanced as tympanist with local orchestral groups.
She is survived by her husband Richard A. Smith; son Kenneth Frasier Smith; daughters Julie Valentine; Holly Liberatore; and Jeannette Smith; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Charles Galdes
Charles Galdes, 82, a resident of Menlo Park since 1961, died.
Charles was born in Naxxar, Malta. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1947, moving to Menlo Park in 1961. Charles was passionate about music, especially playing the trumpet. He loved fishing, cooking, gardening, painting and helping others. In his long retirement, he was active in his parish, the church choir and spent many hours volunteering at St. Anthony kitchen.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Galdes; sons Sam, Frank and Anthony; brother Emanuel Galdes; sisters Rose Galdes, Theresa Galdes and Josephine Fenech; and seven grandchildren.
Jane F. Yonemoto
Jane F. Yonemoro, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died Oct. 10. She was 85. Jane was born in Lodi, Calif. and moved to Palo Alto with her husband and three children 49 years ago. She was an active member of the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple and the Mountain View Senior Center.
She is survived by her sister, Mae Wu; her two daughters Akiko Leister and Grace Hauseur; son Wayne Yonemoto; and two granddaughters.
Services have been held.
