SPIKES AND DIGS . . . Menlo School grad Courtney Rose reached double figures in kills and hit over .500 for the seventh time this season in helping Division III Emory University defeat Berry College, 30-21, 30-14, 30-19, over the weekend. Rose leads the third-ranked Eagles with a 4.00 kills per game average, and has four double-doubles . . . Palo Alto High grad Katrina Zawojski continues her impressive freshman season at Colgate University. Zawojski, the MVP of the El Camino Division and an All-Central Coast selection last year, recorded 12 kills and 10 digs in leading the Raiders to a 30-15, 30-23, 30-21 victory over Lehigh University last weekend . . . Woodside Priory grad Cassie Perret had 11 kills, hit .667, served four aces and recorded seven digs as 14th-ranked Santa Clara defeated Gonzaga, 30-20, 30-18, 30-19, over the weekend.
TOP PLAYER . . . Stanford grad Scott Lipsky was named USTA Pro Circuit Player of the Week after he teamed with doubles partner and fellow Stanford grad David Martin to win the championship of the Costa Mesa Pro Futures Classic. Lipsky has won seven doubles titles this season.
OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College football team dropped a 54-0 decision to visiting Cal Lutheran on Saturday. The Oaks (0-6) threw three interceptions, fumbled three times, and snapped a ball out of the end zone to aid the Kingsmen. Menlo quarterback Adam Hazel threw for 97 yards, completing 10 of 20 passes. Linebacker Travis Correa had a game-high 10 1/2 tackles, nine solo tackles. The Oaks have a bye this week . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team remained undefeated in California Pacific Conference play with a pair of home victories over the weekend. The Oaks beat Dominican, 30-22, 30-14, 30-26, on Friday and downed Notre Dame de Namur, 30-16, 32-30, 30-16, on Saturday. Senior Kari Shimomura had 13 kills and 21 assists in the win over the Penguins, while freshman Malia Pires added 11 kills. Against Notre Dame de Namur, junior Sanoe' Eselu recorded 16 kills and Shimomura added 16. Sophomore Christa Hewett had 16 digs. Menlo (8-0, 10-4) was scheduled to host UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday night . . . The Menlo College women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Cal Pac play with a 7-0 victory over host Mills on Saturday. Laurin Daniels and Elaine Strauss each scored twice in the match, with other goals coming from Gunn High grad Ja'Net Lawrence, Rachel Anden and Molly Flanagan. The Oaks (3-0, 8-3-1) were slated to host Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday.
COACHING CORNER . . . Palo Alto High is looking for girls' varsity and JV soccer coaches for the 2005-06 winter season. Those interested should contact Paly Athletic Director Earl Hansen at 329-3886.
