Jordan coach charged with molesting second girl Jordan coach charged with molesting second girl (September 14, 2005)

Reported victim was 13 years old

Bill Girodano, a Palo Alto coach and teacher already suspected of having sex with a student who was 14, has now been charged with molesting a second underage girl.

The alleged molestation of the second victim, who was 13 at the time, reportedly occurred between January and June 2002.

Giordano, 59, was originally arrested Aug. 18 at his Menlo Park home. He was charged with having sex with a member of his volleyball team between 1991 and 1994, starting when the girl was 14.

The first victim, who allegedly recalled the molestation during therapy and then came forward to police, babysat for Giordano's son, according to prosecutors.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe alleged Giordano engaged in a similar pattern of "grooming" the second female student for sex.

Three additional counts of felony molestation were added against Giordano Friday afternoon at his arraignment in San Mateo County Superior Court. He is now charged with 24 felony counts of sexual molestation and could face more than 20 years in prison, Wagstaffe said.

A third victim had also come forward, but the alleged molestations occurred prior to 1988 and thus were beyond the statute of limitations, Wagstaffe said. If Giordano goes to trial, the district attorney's office will try to present information about that incident.

Giordano, known informally as "Mr. G," has been a teacher in the Palo Alto district since 1978 and has taught at Jordan since 1991. In addition to coaching volleyball, he teaches physical education and coaches track and field. He is currently on unpaid administrative leave from the Palo Alto Unified School District.

Giordano remains in custody in San Mateo County Jail. His bail was kept at $1 million on Friday because of the new allegations.

His attorney requested a bail hearing, which has been scheduled for Sept. 23. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 26.
