The Hale Baskin Jazz Ensemble will perform today from noon to 1:30 p.m., as part of the Brown Bag concert series. "The "National Showcase of New Plays" will take place through June 25 at Stanford University. The festival features 18 new plays from theatres around the United Sates, performed as staged readings. The six-day showcase will be co-presented by the National Center for New Plays at Stanford and the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Each play will be performed twice in campus venues that include Annenberg Auditorium, Pigott Hall and lecture halls in Jordan Hall and the Cummings Art Building. "Vanishing Worlds: Art and Ritual in Amazonia" will be on display through Aug. 21 at Stanford's Cantor Arts Center. Organized by the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the exhibition features 150 art objects from the ceremonies and daily life of indigenous peoples of the Amazon River basin. Tours of the exhibition will take place on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. The Center is located at Lomita Drive at Museum Way and is open Wednesday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Thursday until 8 p.m. Admission is free. "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife" will run through July 8 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Presented by the Palo Alto Players, the play chronicles an Upper West side matron suffering from mid-life malaise. Regular show times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $22 for Sunday performances; $24 for Wednesday and Thursday performances; $25 for Friday evenings; $27 for Saturday evenings. "Dolly West's Kitchen" will run through July 10 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. The play marks the opening of TheatreWorks' 36th season. Written by Frank McGuiness, the play is set during World War II and centers on an Irish family whose kitchen is the meeting place for Allies. The play will preview tonight and open on Saturday at 8 p.m. Show times are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20-$50, with discounts available for youth, students, seniors and members. Stanford Art Spaces presents a "Philippine Art Exhibit" through June 23. The exhibition features works by 14 Philippine artists. "The Glass Menagerie" will be presented by Wingspread 2005, the Palo Alto Children's Theatre Summer Stock Company. The Pacific Art League will showcase works by three local artists, Linda Gray-Moin, Donnasue Jacobi and Deborah Miller. Mark Russo and The Classy Cats with Vocalist Mary Blaser will perform today at 2 and 4 p.m. at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) at Finn Center.
