JOUST READ! . . .The Palo Alto City Library is once again offering a stellar summer reading program for youth entering the sixth- through 12th-grades. This year's is called "Joust Read" and will be centered around fantasy and medieval fiction. Teens can sign up from now until August 1 either online, at www.cityofpaloalto.org/library/teens, or in person at the Mitchell Park or Main libraries. Participants choose how many books they want to read this summer, and when they reach their goal, they receive a free paperback book, a coupon for a free pizza and other special prizes. Along the way, there will be several activities, such as a medieval mystery party and an online medieval scavenger hunt, to augment the program. SLOW THE STRESS DOWN . . .With school out for the summer, Good Parents, Inc. is hosting an upcoming workshop for parents who want to help their teen cope with stress and peer pressure. "Life in the Fast Lane" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. June 22 at the Mitchell Park Community Center, in conjunction with the city of Palo Alto's Teen Services. CALLING NEW COLLEGE GRADS . . .If you are from Palo Alto and recently graduated from college, the Weekly wants to hear from you. Send your name, college information, and where and when you graduated from high school in Palo Alto to arocha@paweekly.com by July 5. Parents of recent grads should send their son or daughter's information for them. The names and information will be published in the July edition of School's Out.


PALO ALTO TO KNOXVILLE . . .Students from the International School of the Peninsula in Palo Alto scored in the top 25 percent at this month's Destination Imagination
(DI) global finals held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. DI is one of the world's largest problem solving programs for students of all ages. The International School's team consists of six students who saw success at the finals with their bridge that could hold 425 pounds.
