How did you vote for Measure A and why ?
Question and interviews by Patricia Bass. Photographs by Tomomi Tsuda. Asked on University Avenue.

Noel Beitler
Academic Resource Center co-coordinater (at Palo Alto High School)
Channing Avenue

"I voted yes on Measure A, because I work at Paly High and the work that the staff does there is truly invaluable. I don't think they could pay teachers enough."

Douglas Derderian
Aesthetician
Menlo Park

"I support the measure, because I come from a place that is very poor, and they did not pass (a similar) measure, and they had to dismantle the football team and other extracurriculars. Here, people are fantastically affluent and can afford to invest in schools."

Lynn Robinson
Home-maker
Cowper Street

"I voted 'Yes' because I think we have plenty of money for kids and for schools. We have great schools and I want to keep them great."

Luther Jackson
Shoe-shiner
Laurel Avenue

"Schools never get enough money. I just worry about whether or not the money from these taxes will really be enough. Schools need to get their fair share from the California Lottery."

Leigh Atkins
Student
"My sister's at high school at Paly and I don't think they have enough money for some things. I would always vote for more money for schools."
