NEW MENLO COACH . . . Menlo School has selected Chris Crader to coach its girls' varsity volleyball team. Crader replaces Ryan Cooling, who left to coach at Presentation. Crader is an assistant club director at City Beach, where he coached the 2005 Northern California Regional Championship team and the 2004 silver medal-winning team at the Junior National Championships. Crader also was a varsity assistant at Presentation High and a coach at the Stanford girls', boy's and adult volleyball camps. "I am excited to go back to being a head coach at the high school level," said Crader, whose previous prep coaching duties were at Homestead. "Menlo has a great tradition of success, certainly as an academic institution as well as a volleyball program. I look forward to having a chance to add to that. I am excited for August to arrive and getting started with practice."
COACHING CORNER . . . Palo Alto High is looking for a varsity baseball coach for the 2006 season. OF LOCAL NOTE . . . A community meeting to discuss raising funds to purchase lights for the Gunn High football field will be Monday, June 13 at the Gunn library at 7 p.m. Installation of the lights is expected to run from $200,000 to $250,000. About half that amount has been committed to the project. Those wishing to provide input or find out more about the fund raising can contact Cindy Ziebelman at 857-9100. Monday's meeting is open to the public . . . The Accel Foundation Golf Tournament, which will benefit the Palo Alto High athletic community, will be held June 27 at Palo Alto Hills Country Club. ON THE LINKS . . . Menlo School's Brent Booth qualified for the NCGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Coyote Creek's Valley Course on June 2. Brent hit his approach to inside three feet on the 18th hole, made his putt, and got into the group at 75 that just made the cut. Brent will continue on to the Championship at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach in July . . . Stanford-bound golfer Daniel Lim of Bellarmine Prep won the California Interscholastic Federation state title by shooting a 3-under-par 69 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on Wednesday.
