SUMMER BASEBALL . . . The Palo Alto Oaks swept a doubleheader from the San Jose Brewers, 9-5 and 9-2, on Sunday in the Western Baseball Association Stan Musial Division opener at Baylands Park. Jeff Kettman made a spectacular debut with the Oaks in the first game, collecting four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and driving in five runs. Gabe Duran added two hits while Gunn grad Jefferson Bradshaw hit a home run. Palo Alto grad Colby Henard did not allow an earned run, scattering three hits, in six innings to gain the victory. He struck out six. In the second game, Duran and Gary Mullins each had two hits and Bradshaw and Sean Scott each drove in two runs to support the complete-game effort by Matt Campbell, who allowed one earned run on nine hits and struck out seven. The Oaks host the Bay Area Giants on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Baylands . . . Getting significant contributions from current and former Menlo School players, the Redwood City Post 105 Blues American Legion team won three times over the weekend, sweeping Gilroy, 8-5 and 11-1, on Sunday after beating Pacifica, 17-3, on Friday. Chuck Huggins struck out 10 in seven innings to gain the victory in game on Sunday, getting offensive support from Nathan Adelman, Danny Rogers and Brett Hart, who each had two hits. Rob McAdams tossed a three-hitter in game two while James Crosby and Ryan Cavan each drove in two runs. Cavan hit a grand slam in the win over Pacifica while Adelman had three hits and drove in five runs. Rogers pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts. He did not walk a batter and retired 20 of 21 hitters at one point . . . The Palo Alto Post 375 American Legion team beat Pacifica, 17-1, on Sunday as Shane Parsons had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs. Max Pinto also had three hits while Nathan Ford tripled twice and drove in two runs. Alex Schmarzo pitched a two-hitter over five innings for the win.

COACHING CORNER . . . Palo Alto High is looking for a varsity baseball coach for the 2006 season. ON THE FARM . . . Stanford is hosting a Youth Sports Festival and Seminar on Saturday, June 25 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 pm. The event features sports clinics hosted by Stanford University student-athletes and coaches for children ages 8-14, two seminars on the impact of sports participation, a panel discussion with former Stanford student-athletes and numerous interactive exhibits in a festival atmosphere.
