"Vanishing Worlds: Art and Ritual in Amazonia"
"Vanishing Worlds: Art and Ritual in Amazonia" will be on display through Aug. 21 at Stanford's Cantor Arts Center. Organized by the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the exhibition features 150 art objects from the ceremonies and daily life of indigenous peoples of the Amazon River basin.
Tours of the exhibition will take place on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. The Center is located at Lomita Drive at Museum Way and is open Wednesday - Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Thursday until 8 p.m. Admission is free. THEATER
3 For All
"3 For All," an improv ensemble featuring comedians Rafe Chase, Steve Kearin and Tim Orr, will take place today at 5 p.m. at Menlo School. Gunn High School drama teacher Jim Shelby will provide the improvisational musical accompaniment. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door, by calling the school's bookstore at (650) 650-3001 ext. 2535 or by visiting www.menloschool.org/forms/index.html and clicking on "Order tickets." All proceeds will benefit the school's drama department. Menlo School is located at 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.
OPERA
The Threepenny Opera
West Bay Opera presents "The Threepenny Opera" tonight at 8 p.m. at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Composed in the '20s by Kurt Weill and playwright Bertolt Brecht, the production features operatic parody, social satire and popular song, including "Mack the Knife." Additional show times are Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The production will be reprised the weekend of June 3-5, with similar show times.
Tickets are $46; $23 for youth under 17 or students with valid ID. THEATER
Stanford hosts improv tournament
The Stanford Improvisors (SImps) will host the 10th Annual California TheatreSports Tournament over Memorial Day weekend. The best professional improvisers from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Ventura and Palm Beach will join the SImps at Stanford's Pigott Theatre. In each match, two teams will take turns improvising scenes, songs and games inspired by audience suggestions. Each scene will be scored by a panel of celebrity judges that includes Stanford Vice Provost Greg Boardman, Stanford Law School Dean Larry Kramer and Stanford Provost John Etchemendy.
Show times are tonight at 8 and 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 8 p.m. The championship match will take place on Sunday at 10 p.m. Admission per show is $10 general; $5 for students with ID.
