GREENER PASTURES ... Acterra will highlight seven Bay Area programs at its 14th annual Business Environmental Awards Ceremony, to be held April 28. Recipients include New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. ; Santa Clara Valley Water District's water softener rebate pilot program ; Cargill's South Bay salt pond restoration project ; PaloAltoGreen ; Leger Wanaselja Architecture's Dwight Way project; Presidio World College's MBA program in Sustainable Management and San Jose Conservation Corps. and Charter School.


HOWDY, PARTNER ... Bain & Company, a global business consulting firm, recently announced the appointment of Tom Holland as the head of its San Francisco and Palo Alto offices. He will oversee the firm's Northern California operations, including general office management, growth planning and marketing.


TOMORROW THE WORLD ... Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walter LLP, a leading international law firm, recently opened an office in Palo Alto. The firm employs 1,000 attorneys in 16 offices throughout the world, including Hong Kong, London, Paris, Tokyo and New York.


TAKING THE HELM ... The new executive director of Filoli has started work at the 654-acre historic Woodside estate with a mansion and European-inspired gardens. Susanne Pandich , 55, who brings management and fund-raising experience to Filoli, takes over from the retiring Anne Taylor , Filoli's executive director for the past 16 years. Since 1985, Pandich has been the director of Lyndhurst, a National Trust property in Tarrytown, NY, where she was responsible for multi-million-dollar capital improvement campaigns. Earlier, she was the first curator at the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina.
