CARDINAL CORNER . . . Stanford is hosting a Youth Sports Festival and Seminar on Saturday, June 25 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 pm. The event features sports clinics hosted by Stanford University student-athletes and coaches for children ages 8-14, two seminars on the impact of sports participation, a panel discussion with former Stanford student-athletes and numerous interactive exhibits in a festival atmosphere. All events are free and open to the public. The first 1,000 children to register will receive a free Youth Festival t-shirt. For further information, call (650) 724-3910 . . . The Stanford Sports Legends Celebrity Golf Classic will take place on Monday, April 25 on the Stanford Golf Course. John Elway, Bill Walsh, Jim Plunkett and John Lynch headline the list of former Stanford greats who have committed to play. Other Stanford celebrities slated to participate include Darrin Nelson, Walt Harris, Adam Keefe, Brad Muster and John Dunning, among others. Spots remain available in the event at the price of $325 per golfer and $1,300 per foursome (each group consists of a paid foursome and a celebrity). The price includes green fees, cart, lunch, dinner and beverages. All proceeds benefit the Stanford Athletic Department Scholarship Fund. For more information, please call Lizzy Lemire at 723-5361.


OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College softball team dropped a doubleheader, 6-5 and 7-1, to visiting Dominican on Thursday. Adrianne Antoni hit a three-run homer for the Oaks (15-16) in the first game. Menlo hosts Cal State East Bay in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.


OF LOCAL NOTE . . . In a continuing effort to complete an on campus baseball facility at Menlo-Atherton High, an unnamed donor has stepped forward with an offer to double all donations toward The Bettencourt Field Fund between now and April 20. An estimated $120,000 is needed to complete the project, which is currently in phase one. Donations can be sent to The Bettencourt Field Fund, in care of Menlo-Atherton High, 555 Middlefield Road, Atherton, CA 94027. For more information, contact M-A Athletic Director Pam Wimberly at the school. The field is named in honor of former M-A baseball coach Frank Bettencourt. The Bears currently use nearby Flood Park as their home field . . . Menlo School is looking for a girls' varsity basketball assistant coach and girls' frosh-soph basketball coaches.
