FESTIVAL
Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival
The 23rd Annual Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival will take place today through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Menlo Park (Santa Cruz Avenue). The event will feature more than 100 artists who represent a variety of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry-making and more.

TEXTILES
Ode to kimonos
The Woodside Library will feature Julie Newdoll's series on kimonos through April . A reception for the artist will take place on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The library is located at 3140 Woodside Road in Woodside. For more information please call (650) 851-0147.

ART
Stellar Somerset Gallery
"Book paintings" by James Lagiss will be on display through April 30 at the Stellar Somerset Gallery, 539 Bryant St. in Palo Alto. The show will include works never previously exhibited from a series of over 100 book paintings completed by the artist from 1992 to the present.

Lagiss is a Peninsula native who attended the University of California at Davis, where he studied with such nationally known artists as Wayne Thiebaud and Manuel Neri. He also did post-graduate work with Nathan Oliveira at Stanford University. He is noted for his large-scale sculpture boats and extensive series of "Book Paintings."

A reception for the artist will take place tonight from 6 to 9 p.m., as part of the First Friday Art Walk. Admission is free. For more information please call (650) 328-6688 or visit www.stellarsomersetgallery.com.
