Patricia Evans, owner of Natural Landscape Designs, and Carolyn Whealan-Andersson, former director of horticulture at Gamble Garden, will offer the basic steps to "Designing Your Garden" tomorrow, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Gamble Garden Carriage House, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. The pair will offer design tips and a list of indestructible, low-maintenance plants. Bring a sketch of your garden. Fee is $25 for non-members, $20 for members. SIMPLE SOLUTIONS . . .An introduction to home floral arranging called "Simple Solutions for Beautiful Flower Arrangements -- Swing into Spring," will be offered tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. Class uses spring flowers, with demonstrations on using color contrasts, and offers care tips. Participants take home a completed arrangement. PAINLESS GARDENING? . . . Deborah Dutton and Paulette Dolin will teach a class tomorrow, 1 to 4 p.m. on "Effortless Gardening," based on the Feldenkrais Method, to help ease joint pain associated with gardening. TRACE THE ROOTS . . . Green Gables in Woodside and Hearst Castle in San Simeon are the center of a two-day landscape history seminarthis weekend at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. Landscape experts will trace the roots of California gardens in "Hadrian's Villa and the California Garden," presented by the Garden Conservancy.
