GARDEN PLANNING . . . David Basile will teach a couple of classes tomorrow focusing on getting your garden started. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., he will offer "Planning Your Garden" using the master charts in "How to Grow More Vegetables," and from 2 to 4 p.m. he will talk about "Compost Crops." VOLUNTEER AT TOUR? . . . More than 275 volunteers are needed for Gamble Garden's 20th annual Spring Garden Tour, April 29 and 30. Some will act as hosts and ticket sellers in the five private gardens on tour; others will pitch in at Gamble Garden. No experience is necessary, and there will be a brief training. Shifts run three hours. Volunteers may buy tour tickets at the discounted, advance members' rate of $25 (non-members $30; day of event, $35 for all). THINKING OF BUYING? . . . Carla Rayacich, CEO of Stanford Mortgage, MBA and real estate investor, will teach a seminar on "Homebuying for Women" on three Wednesdays, beginning March 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, room 6505, Los Altos Hills. Topics range from identifying and overcoming obstacles to home ownership, figuring out how much one can afford and success strategies for buying. Cost is $45. PRIVATE GARDENS . . . Professor Erik Haskell will offer a lecture and slide presentation called "From Formality to Fantasy: Russell Page's Private Gardens in Normandy" on Friday, March 4, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. He will talk about three gardens designed by the renowned landscape architect who lived in France from 1945 to 1962. Cost is $20 for non-members, $15 for members.
