A GOOD START . . . The San Francisco Business Times recently reported that Palo Alto-based IM2 Inc. raised $8 million in its first round of venture funding. The company, which is developing a shopping search engine, stated that Redpoint Ventures and Lightspeed Ventures led the funding, with Cambrian Ventures also giving money. Tim Haley of Redpoint and Ravi Mhatre of Lightspeed will sit on IM2's board as a condition of the funding.
TOPIX FOR DISCUSSION . . . Hoping to attract more online readers, the New York Times has paid to have its headlines featured in sections of the Palo Alto-based Topix.net , an Internet start-up that compiles news snippets from hundreds of Web sites. The company, founded in 2002, offers a variety of categories of information, including news, sports, entertainment, health and science. The Times will have three of its story headlines featured at the top 80 categories for an undisclosed price. All but a few of the topics are focused on New York City and New York state. "This is significant because even if you are the biggest and best newspaper on the Web, you still want to increase your audience," said Topix CEO Rich Skrenta.
YOU OUGHTA BE IN OURPICTURES . . . Our Pictures Inc. , a Palo Alto-based provider of digital photo software and solutions for the mass market, retailers and ISPs, recently announced it has expanded its executive management team with the addition of two new vice presidents. Pamela Kelly , an award-winning consumer brand marketer, has been appointed to the position of Vice President Marketing. "The OurPictures team is made up of world-class photo imaging and consumer software designers and executives," said John Paul, president and CEO of the company. "With these two key additions to our executive management team, we will continue to build our company."
