GET CERTIFIED . . . Are you a high school student looking to fulfill your living skills component? If so, sign up in the Gunn High School guidance office immediately for the CPR and first aid classes held this week . Retired teacher Hal Daner will teach a CPR class from 5:30 to 8:30 tonight and a first aid class Thursday at the same time. If you pass the course, you will receive official certification from the American Red Cross. For more information, call Gunn at 354-8288.

WAVE AND SAVE PROJECT . . . Many students have organized fundraising events to help the victims of December's tsunami disaster. About 50 Jordan Middle School sixth-graders are nearing their goal of raising $4,000. Over the past few weeks, the students have held multiple events, including a bake sale and live auction where they sold handmade art, soap, stationary, jewelry and photographs, as part of what they call the Tsunami Wave Project . The students are also busy selling 2,000 red tsunami bracelets, which are similar to the yellow Livestrong bands. So far, they have raised $3,500. JUANA RUN FOR FUN? . . . The ninth annual Juana Run will be held through the neighborhood streets of Barron Park on Feb. 26 - rain or shine. The event includes an 8-kilometer, 1-mile and kids' races, and all proceeds go to the Barron Park and Juana Briones elementary school PTAs. Each registered runner will be entered in a raffle for a new bike, and a free pancake breakfast will be available for all 8-kilometer (five mile) runners. RIDE TO PROM IN STYLE . . . This year, students attending Palo Alto High School's prom , to be held at San Francisco City Hall April 9, will have to be transported by Stanford Limousine . The Paly PTSA is making this structural change to ensure the school's event remains a fun and safe event. The company is offering Paly students eight different modes of transportation, ranging in price from $20 to $105 per person. The deadline to secure a ride is March 4. After students have secured their transportation, they can buy a prom ticket beginning March 14.

CALLING ALL SWEETHEARTS . . . The Community Advisory Committee for Special Education , better known as CAC, will hold its first Sweetheart Awards to honor individuals who have made a difference in the life of a child with special needs. The award ceremony and reception will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the local school district's board room at 25 Churchill Ave. For more information, e-mail Karen Lawson at rkelawson@earthlink.net.

FROM TOTS TO TEENAGERS . . . The Lucille Packard Children's Hospital is hosting an upcoming workshop series, entitled "A Heart to Heart Talk on Growing Up," to provide boys and girls, aged 10 to 12, and their parents information about the wonders of adolescence in a fun and open manner. The two-part workshop, which costs $60, is designed so girls attend with their moms and boys attend with their dads. Both offer information about body changes, myths and facts, social issues and sexuality, with an emphasis on the importance of family. The first two-hour class for girls and moms will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the hospital March 9. For boys and dads, it will be held at the same time and place March 22.
