THEATER
Mother Courage and Her Children

The Stanford University Department of Drama will present "Mother Courage and Her Children" tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Pigott Theatre, located in Memorial Hall, 551 Serra Mall (at Memorial Way and Galvez). This is a new production of Bertolt Brecht's comic anti-war protest play. Additional show times are and Feb. 17-19 at 8 p.m.

A post-show discussion will take place on Feb. 18, featuring playwright-in-residence Cherrķe Moraga. Moraga will speak with Carl Weber, who worked on the first productions of "Mother Courage" in East Berlin in the 1940s.

San Francisco Girls Chorus

The San Francisco Girls Chorus will perform tonight at 8 p.m. at Stanford's Memorial Church. Presented by Stanford Lively Arts, the concert will feature the world premiere of a new work by Bay Area composer Frank La Rocca. Stanford Lively Arts commissioned the piece to honor the choir's 25th anniversary. The chorus will also perform American spirituals; folk songs from China and Japan; and a canticle for treble chorus and handbells by Sir John Tavener.

Tickets are $38 adults; $19 Stanford students. Half-price tickets are available for people age 15 and under and discounts are available for students. BENEFIT
Arts with a Heart

"Arts with a Heart," a musical variety show, will be presented tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Castilleja School, 1310 Bryant St. (corner of Embarcadero) in Palo Alto. Presented by students from Castilleja and Eastside College Preparatory School, the event will feature student artwork, original video art and musical, dance, drama and mime performances. The suggested donation is $10/adults; $5/students. Proceeds will benefit Save the Children, an organization that works to promote health and education for children living in poverty in many parts of the world. MUSIC
Schubertiade

San Francisco Chamber Orchestra will present a "Schubertiade" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Stanford's Campbell Recital Hall, located inside the Braun Music Center. Mezzo-soprano Zheng Cao and pianist Mack McCray will perform at this event, which showcases the music of Franz Schubert. The event will also showcase the painting, "Schubert Reclining," by San Francisco artist Leonard Breger.

BENEFIT
Storytelling

Bay Area storytellers will perform on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Palo Alto Friends Meetinghouse, 957 Colorado Ave. in Palo Alto (southeast of Oregon Expressway between Lewis and Greer). Dedicated to tsunami relief efforts, the performers will share stories from lands that touch the Indian Ocean, as well as tales which touch on how people cope with natural disasters.

Performers will include Ruth Fraser, who will bring tales from Sri Lanka and South India, where she lived and worked. Additional storytellers are David Ponkey from Marin County, Erica Lann-Clark from Santa Cruz, J.C. Cockrell from Big Basin, Kate Frankel from Berkeley, plus local talents Tom and Sandy Farley of Spontaneous Combustion, Kristin Link and Laurie Pines.
