CHINESE NEW YEAR . . .

Trader Vic's will celebrate the Chinese New Year with a performance by the award-winning Yao Kung Mon School of Kung Fu Lion Dancers. The troupe will present two half-hour shows this Sunday between 7 and 8 p.m.

Now through Sunday, Trader Vic's will also serve a three-course Chinese-influenced dinner. The menu will feature specialties prepared in the Han Dynasty style. The prix fixe dinner will be $40 per person (tax and gratuity additional). Trader Vic's is located at 4269 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. For reservations or information please call (650) 849-9800.

The Young Lion Dancers will perform at Ming's on Feb. 20 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. The dancers, ages 4 to 16 years, are from the Chinese Community Center of the Peninsula in Palo Alto.

Ming's Chef Vincent Li will give a Chinese almond cookie demonstration. The event will also feature food writer Grace Young, author of "The Breath of a Wok." Young will speak about Chinese New Year's traditions and show photos of China and Hong Kong from her book. All events are free.
