Theater
"Forever Plaid" at Bus Barn

"Forever Plaid" will open tonight at 8 p.m. at Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos.

Conceived by Stuart Ross, "Forever Plaid" centers on four male singers known as the Plaids, who are working their way to the top. The revue features 22 hit songs from the 1950s and early 1960s, including "Three Coins in a Fountain," "Moments to Remember," "Catch a Falling Star" and "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing." "Forever Plaid" will be directed by Bus Barn Artistic Director Barbara Cannon.

Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday on Jan. 23 and 30. "Forever Plaid" will run through Feb. 12. Tickets are $30 for tonight's Opening Night gala, which includes a post-champagne reception; $28 for Thursday/Friday/Saturday and $22 for Sundays. Lecture
Museum of American Heritage

"Building the Best Telephone Company in the World" will be the subject of a lecture tonight at the Museum of American Heritage (MOAH) in Palo Alto. Dor Hesselgrave, who worked for many years as an engineer for AT&T's Bell Telephone Laboratories, will tell the story of the company that changed America's way of life. The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the museum's Frank Livermore Learning Center, located at 351 Homer Ave. in Palo Alto.

Admission is free for MOAH members and $5 for non-members. The lecture coincides with the museum's current exhibition, "Number Please: The Evolution of the Telephone," which will be open beginning at 7 pm and after the presentation. Dance
Ailey II

The Ailey II dance troupe will perform on Friday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. at Stanford's Memorial Auditorium. Led by former Alvin Ailey dancer Sylvia Waters, the company is comprised of 18- to 24-year-olds. The program will showcase a repertoire of works created between 1960 and 2003 by founder Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison (former Ailey dancer and current artistic director), as well as contemporary choreographers Igal Perry and Robert Battle. A post-performance discussion will be free and open to the public.

The event will be presented by Stanford Lively Arts. Tickets are $40/$34/$26 for adults. Half-price tickets are available for people age 15 and under and discounts are available for students.
