WHAT GOES WITH WHAT? . . . Fran Adams, APLD, will teach a class on "Landscape Plants and Combinations," beginning Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 6:30-9 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. The nine-week class will cover garden design basics, with information on color, style, texture and form, plus how to measure and draw up a plan. Fee is $111, plus a couple of required texts. MORE ABOUT ROSES . . . The Rosareans of the Santa Clara County Rose Society will be demonstrating rose pruning on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Redwood Grove Nature Preserve rose garden, 482 University Ave., Los Altos. The group will also offer free advice on rose care and pruning on Sunday, Jan. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Rengstorff House, 3070 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Shoreline Park, Mountain View.

WOMEN, TAKE CHARGE . . . Carla Rayacich, of Stanford Mortgage in Palo Alto, will teach a class on "Home Buying for Women" beginning Thursday, Jan. 20, 7-9 p.m. The three-session class will cover overcoming obstacles to home ownership, understanding why to buy and practical tips to make it happen. Fee is $38 for Menlo Park residents, $51 for non-residents. The class is held at Burgess Recreation Center, 701 Laurel St., Menlo Park.
