Guys and Dolls
"Guys and Dolls" will be performed today at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road. The musical will be staged in its Jr. Broadway version by Terman Middle School students. Additional show time is Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $6 adults; $ 3 children and will be available through the Children's Theatre box office Tuesdays through Saturdays at (650) 463-4970.

First Friday Art Walk
The "First Friday Art Walk" will take place tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Palo Alto. A Midsummer Night's Dream -- in winter
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" will open tonight at 8 p.m. at the Pear Avenue Theatre, 1220 Pear Ave. Unit K in Mountain View. Show times are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The show, which runs through Dec. 19, re-envisions Shakespeare's "Midsummer" in a mid-winter setting, just in time for the holidays. Holiday stroll
A "Holiday Stroll" will take place tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Palo Alto. The community is invited to hear carolers strolling down the streets, taste fresh roasted chestnuts and visit with Father Christmas at the Cardinal Hotel, 235 Hamilton Ave.
A multimedia show will take place at Jungle Digital, 542 High St.; kids' activities will be on tap at Design Within Reach, 151 University Ave.; hoop shooting will take place at the Old Pro, 541 Ramona St.; and there will be gingerbread cookie decorating at Kiki's, 540 Emerson St. Street vendors will offer cider, cocoa, crepes and special treats (even for dogs). The evening will also include the First Friday Art Walk, which showcases new exhibits at downtown galleries.

Palo Alto Philharmonic
The Palo Alto Philharmonic will perform on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Cubberley Theatre, 4000 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. The concert will feature Samuel Barber's "Overture to The School for Scandal" and Johannes Brahms' "Fourth Symphony in E Minor." Violinist Michelle Maruyama will play Max Bruch's romantic "Violin Concerto No. 1."

El Camino Flute Ensembles
El Camino Flute Ensembles will perform on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 E. Charleston Ave. in Palo Alto. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Maurice Ravel, Michael Coolen, Ryohei Hirose and Kabalevsky. It will also include two holiday pieces, "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" and "Angels We Have Heard on High."

Celebrating Fats Waller
The Palo Alto Jazz Alliance (PAJA) will celebrate the music of Fats Waller on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Canada College's Main Theatre, 4200 Farm Hill Boulevard in Redwood City. The concert will feature a vocal set by singer Lorraine Feather and pianist Mike Lipskin and an instrumental set performed by the Friends of Fats. There will also be rare film and illustrated shorts of Waller.

Cubberley Artists
Cubberley Artists will open their studios to the public on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Cubberley Center art studios are located at 4000 Middlefield Road (Wings E, F and U) in Palo Alto. The event is intended to show the artists' appreciation to the Palo Alto community for its continued support of the arts. Visitors are invited to enjoy fine art, fine food and entertainment.
