OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team remained undefeated in California Pacific Conference play following a 30-25, 30-28, 35-33 victory over host Bethany College on Saturday night. The Oaks (14-0, 17-2) have four matches remaining, including a pair on the road this weekend at William Jessup on Friday and at Simpson College on Saturday. Menlo remains a game ahead of Notre Dame de Namur (13-1, 18-10). Senior Cindy Epps recorded 19 kills in the win over the Bruins while Kari Shimomura added 13 kills and Sanoe' Eselu had 11 kills. Freshman setter Alyssa Chang had 41 assists . . . The Menlo women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host Notre Dame de Namur in the championship match of the California Pacific Conference playoffs on Thursday. The Oaks (13-6-1) enjoyed their finest season in school history, setting a record for victories. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Courson recorded two saves . . . The Menlo College football team dropped a 69-13 decision to visiting Linfield on Saturday. The Wildcats (7-0) scored five touchdowns within an eight-minute span of the second quarter to take control of the contest. Ray DeSenna kicked a pair of field goals and Russ Fukushima caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Adam Hazel for the Oaks (1-6). Eddie Conner rushed for 100 yards on 27 carries. Menlo hosts Pacific Lutheran on Saturday at 1 p.m. . . . The Menlo College men's wrestling team opens the season ranked eighth in the NAIA poll, and junior Marcus Andy is ranked first in the 197-pound weight class. Juniors Atrem Krylov and Kyle Bickford rank fifth and seventh at 157 pounds, and junior heavyweight Dan Kunkes is ranked seventh.
COACHING CORNER . . . The Palo Alto Recreation Department is seeking coaches for its volleyball, flag football and basketball programs at the middle school level. Volleyball and flag football begin in early September, and basketball begins in November. Coaches will work 4-5 days a week, with paid and volunteer positions available. Practices held in Palo Alto. Castilleja School is looking for coaches for the upcoming season in varsity track and field in addition to an assistant coach for swimming.
