OAKS' CORNER . . . The Menlo College women's soccer team advanced to the championship game of the California Pacific Conference playoffs with a 3-0 victory over visiting Dominican College on Sunday. The Oaks (13-5-1) play at Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday. "All year, we have battled to gain the respect of our opponents in the Cal Pac league," Menlo coach Owen Flannery said. "We feel we have everyone's attention. I am really excited about Thursday's game, because if we win, we will not only have the respect of the Cal Pac, but the country as well." Gunn High grad Ja'Net Lawrence scored the final goal for Menlo. Junior Jenny Skinner and freshman Sarah Halicki also scored for the Oaks. Freshman Kerry Gaiz assisted on Skinner's goal . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in Cal Pac Conference play following a pair of victories over the weekend. The Oaks (13-0, 16-2) beat host Mills College, 30-12, 30-9, 30-6, on Saturday after beating visiting Holy Names, 30-22, 30-19, 31-29, on Friday night. Menlo visits Bethany College on Saturday. Freshmen Courtney Adaro and Talia Onosai combined for 16 kills and a .500 hitting percentage against Mills, while Christa Hewett had 21 digs. Senior Cindy Epps recorded 15 kills and junior Kari Shimomura had 14 kills and 12 digs in the win over Holy Names. Sophomore Sanoe' Eselu added 11 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Alyssa Chang recorded 44 assists . . . The Menlo College football team dropped a 41-35 double-overtime decision to visiting Whitworth on Saturday despite 358 passing yards and four touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Justin Guglielmelli, who was making his first collegiate start. He also rushed for 95 yards. Senior Marvin Stickel nine catches for 160 yards and caught two touchdowns. Russ Fukushima and Kevin Lyle also caught TD passes. Menlo (1-4) travels to Linfield on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest . . . The Menlo College men's soccer team was knocked out of the Cal Pac Conference playoffs with a 6-0 loss to Holy Names in the first round. The Oaks finish their season at 6-13.

NOTEWORTHY . . . The Stanford women's gymnastics team is hosting a free exhibition at the Ford Center on the Stanford campus Saturday between 6 an 8 p.m. The exhibition is open to all ages, and costumes are encouraged. For information contact mandyd@stanford.edu or call (650) 725-6143.

COACHING CORNER . . . The Palo Alto Recreation Department is seeking coaches for its volleyball, flag football and basketball programs at the middle school level. Volleyball and flag football begin in early September, and basketball begins in November. Coaches will work 4-5 days a week, with paid and volunteer positions available. Practices held in Palo Alto. Castilleja School is looking for coaches for the upcoming season in varsity track and field in addition to an assistant coach for swimming.
