star in TheatreWorks' "Living Out," which previews this week and opens on Saturday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

Thursday

"Living Out"
will preview tonight and Friday at 8 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. It will officially open (California premiere) on Saturday at 8 p.m. and run through Oct. 31. The production will be presented by TheatreWorks. Written by Lisa Loomer, the play chronicles a Latin-American immigrant mother who signs on as a nanny for a power lawyer. Show times are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. (8 p.m. only Oct. 9 and 30); Sundays at 2 and 7 p.m. (2 p.m. only Oct. 24 and 31). "Visual Voice" audio-described performances will be available Oct. 29-30 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20-$50; savings available for youth, students, seniors, and members. "Veracruz" will run through Oct. 10 at the Pear Avenue Theatre, 1220 Pear Avenue, Unit K (off Shoreline Boulevard, across from Century 16 Theatres) in Mountain View. Written by John Levin, the play centers on famed author Jack London and the young Douglas MacArthur and deals with a little-remembered American incursion into Mexican territory that occurred in 1914. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 general; $15 students and seniors for Friday and Saturday shows; $15 general; $10 students and seniors for Thursday and Sunday shows. "Wit" will run through Oct. 9 at Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos. Presented by Bus Barn Stage Company, the Pulitzer Prize winner chronicles a brilliant scholar hospitalized for terminal cancer. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee will take place at 3 p.m. on Oct. 3. A 7 p.m. Sunday performance will take place on Sept. 26. The Ives Quartet
will perform tonight at 8 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave. (near Middlefield Road) in Palo Alto. The program will include "An Andean Walkabout" by Gabriela Lena Frank, Mozart's "Quartet in Eb Major, K.428" and Ravel's "Quartet in F." Tickets are $25 general; $20 seniors; $15 students. Paintings by Linda Montalto and paintings and prints by Andrea Fono and Sarah Ratchye will be on display through Dec. 2 at the Center for Integrated Systems Art Spaces, located on the Stanford campus. Modernbook Gallery will present works by photographer Kimberly Gremillion

Saturday

Downtown Art Day
will take place today from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at City Hall Plaza, 250 Hamilton Ave. in Palo Alto. Eleven new works of public art will be unveiled. In addition, several new projects will be previewed, including "Digital DNA," a sculpture by Adriana Varella and Nilton Maltz. A new sculpture by Marta Thoma called "Rrrun," will also be shown. Guest speakers will include Public Art Commission Council-liaison Vic Ojakian. The public is invited to attend.

"Question" will be on display through Jan. 2 at the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University. This experimental project is designed to provoke and address questions frequently asked by visitors about art and its presentation in museums.
