PA KNIGHTS SWEEP . . . The Palo Alto Knights recorded a sweep of the Gilroy Browns at Palo Alto High School on Sunday. The Mighty Mites scored two touchdowns in the first half to record the victory. The Jr. Pee Wees (3-0-1) continued their undefeated season with a 30-0 win as Jackie Evans rushed for more than 150 yards and scored on runs of 70 and 35 yards. Casey Jackson scored on a 45- yard run and quarterback Jordan Piha threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Matt Mayer to cap the scoring. Austin Braff kicked the extra points and was a standout as the Knights recorded their third shutout of the season. Davante Adams hit James Barry on a 54-yard touch down pass and Gabe Manzaneres scored two touchdowns as the Knights' Pee Wees (2-1) won 22-0. The Pee Wees recorded their second shutout as they dominated the game. The Jr. Midgets (3-1) battled Gilroy for a 30-20 victory as Chris Jamison ran for touchdowns of 56 and 54 yards. Alex Neylan was a defensive standout, scoring on a 45-yard fumble recovery in the second quarter. The Knights travel to Santa Clara on Sunday to play the Santa Clara Lions at Townsend Field. Games begin at 8 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. The Palo Alto Knights will host an Alumni/Reunion on Oct. 10 at Palo Alto High. All past players, coaches and fans are welcome to a day of recognition and festivities.
NEW HOOPS COACH . . . Woodside Priory School has announced that Jason Stamps has accepted the position of boys' varsity basketball coach. Jason, a local product playing at St. Raymond's in Menlo Park and Serra High School, is fourth on the all-time scoring list at Menlo College.
COACHING CORNER . . . The Palo Alto Recreation Department is seeking coaches for its volleyball, flag football and basketball programs at the middle school level. Volleyball and flag football begin in early September, and basketball begins in November. Coaches will work 4-5 days a week, with paid and volunteer positions available. Practices held in Palo Alto. Castilleja School is looking for coaches for the upcoming season in varsity track and field in addition to an assistant coach for swimming.
