The Stanford women's soccer team gets a chance to showcase its talents at home this weekend in the Stanford Invitational.
The 22nd-ranked Cardinal (3-2) found their way back into the national rankings with big showings at two road matches last weekend.

On Sunday, the Broncos will take on CS Fullerton in the 11 a.m. game before Stanford closes out the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. match against Yale.

Yale (5-0) is ranked 19th in the nation, and is one of only 13 teams in the country who have yet to lose or tie a game this season.
Senior goalie Nicole Barnhart has been named to the Soccer America and College Sports Television (CSTV) Preseason All-America teams, as well as the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List. She will be featured on Stanford's weekly television program "The Farm Report" on FSN Bay Area on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The No. 8-ranked Stanford men's soccer team, meanwhile, travels to the Cal State Fullerton SoccerTown Classic and meets UC Irvine today and the host Titans on Sunday.
The Cardinal (3-0-1) faced both teams last season, recording wins over the two Big West squads. Stanford has never lost to UC Irvine in four matches, and is 6-3-2 all-time against the Titans.
After earning the goalkeeper spot on both the Soccer America and the College Soccer News National Teams of the Week last week, sophomore Andrew Kartunen added the Pac-10 Player of the Week honor to his list of accolades for the 2004 season.
He recorded two shutouts over the weekend, and has four on the season to go with 16 saves.
Baseball
Stanford baseball without Mark Marquess is unthinkable. That's why a five-year contract extension comes as no surprise.
Stanford Athletic Director Ted Leland announced the deal that will keep the 57-year-old Marquess at the school through 2009.
In 28 seasons at Stanford, he has won two NCAA titles (1987, '88), earned three national runner-up finishes (2000, '01, '03), and made 13 College World Series appearances.
"I am grateful to Stanford University and Ted Leland for the opportunity to continue to direct the Stanford Baseball program and to work with outstanding student-athletes," said Marquess. "It's exciting to continue striving to reach the lofty goals we have set for Stanford baseball."
Marquess has spent his entire collegiate coaching career at Stanford, amassing a 1190-565-5 (.678) overall record, ninth on the active win list for NCAA Division I coaches and 16th on the all-time list.
"Mark Marquess is one of the top coaches in the history of college baseball and his name is synonymous with the Stanford Baseball program," Leland said. "We are very pleased to be able to have him continue his tenure here."

Field hockey
Stanford (5-4) defeated visiting Drexel, 2-1, on Tuesday in a non-conference game at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.

Jessica Zutz recorded the assists. Julia Drewes started the play from the backfield by passing to a slicing Missy Halliday, who moved the ball to Zutz near the top of the circle.
"It was awesome to get the goal early in the second half," Brooks said.
"It was a great goal and a product of everyone's hard work," Stanford coach Lesley Irvine said. "We had created a lot of opportunities in the first half and were frustrated that we didn't finish a couple of them. We emphasized at halftime that we needed to finish, and our players responded very well to that. They really upped the intensity."
Stanford goalkeeper Ana Kralovec had three saves in the contest, with two of them coming late in the contest during a frantic Drexel offensive surge.
"It was a stressful end of the game," Kralovec said.
