MENLO MUSINGS . . . The Menlo College women's soccer team made history on Friday, and the Lady Oaks are looking to keep rewriting the record books on Wednesday when they travel to Oakland for a match against Mills College at 4 p.m. Ja'Net Lawrence and Joyce O'Leary each scored twice as Menlo (3-1-1) defeated Dominican, 4-0. It was the Oaks first win over Dominican in school history, and their first three-game winning streak ever. "This is one of, if not the biggest, victory in school history," Menlo coach Owen Flannery said. "Dominican is one of the top teams in our Conference and defeating them is a major step in our team's growth." Elaine Strauss recorded an assist and Jessica Courson recorded her third consecutive shutout with four saves. Lawrence scored the team's lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Bethany College on Thursday . . . The Menlo College women's volleyball team won twice over the weekend, beating CSU-Maritime, 30-5, 30-7, 30-8, on Saturday, and then opened California Pacific Conference play with a 30-28, 30-11, 30-16 win over Pacific Union on Sunday. Against Maritime, Sanoe' Eselu recorded 14 kills. She came back to nail 13 kills against Pacific Union while hitting at a .370 clip. Menlo (2-1) travels to Holy Names on Friday for a 7 p.m. match . . . Adam Hazel threw for 344 yards on 30-of-57 passing and Marvin Stickel caught seven passes for 111 yards but the Menlo College football team dropped its season opener, 45-14, to visiting Eastern Oregon on Saturday. The Oaks committed seven turnovers as they lost a season opener for the first time since 2000. Menlo hosts the Great Britain Bulldogs on Saturday at 1 p.m. . . The Menlo College men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to host CSU-Stanislaus on Friday. The Oaks (1-2) were scheduled to visit CSU-Maritime on Tuesday.

COACHING CORNER . . . The Palo Alto Recreation Department is seeking coaches for its volleyball, flag football and basketball programs at the middle school level. Volleyball and flag football begin in early September, and basketball begins in November. Coaches will work 4-5 days a week, with paid and volunteer positions available. Practices held in Palo Alto. Castilleja School is looking for coaches for the upcoming season in varsity cross country, JV water polo, JV tennis, varsity track and field in addition to an assistant coach for swimming. OF LOCAL NOTE . . . The Scholars, an AAU girls 12-under basketball team, are looking for players interested in competing at the highest level, and coached by former Division I and II college players.
