Thursday

"The White House Murder Case"
will run through Sept. 26 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Presented by Palo Alto Players, the story revolves around the President of the United States and his cabinet, who find themselves embroiled in another unpopular war -- this time in Brazil. Show times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $24 for Wednesday and Thursday performances; $25 for Friday evenings; $27 for Saturday evenings; $22 for Sunday performances. "A Little Princess" will run through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. Presented by TheatreWorks, the show is based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's treasured novel. "A Little Princess" chronicles the life of Sara Crewe, the daughter of a wealthy gentleman whose charmed life takes a dramatic turn when her father is tragically killed in action. Show times are Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20-$50; savings are available for youth, students, seniors and members. "Wit" will run through Oct. 9 at Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos. Presented by Bus Barn Stage Company, the Pulitzer Prize winner chronicles a brilliant scholar hospitalized for terminal cancer. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees will take place at 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 and Oct. 3. A 7 p.m. Sunday performance will take place on Sept. 26. "Vera Cruz"
will have its world premiere tonight (sold-out performance) at 8 p.m. at the Pear Avenue Theatre, at 1220 Pear Avenue, Unit K (off Shoreline Boulevard, across from Century 16 Theatres) in Mountain View. Written by John Levin, "Vera Cruz' is set in 1914 and chronicles a chance encounter between writer-socialist Jack London and a young Captain Douglas MacArthur. "In the Mood,"
a swing dance fundraiser, will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Museum of American Heritage (MOAH), 351 Homer Ave. in Palo Alto. Live music will be provided by local big band, Nights with Lady Day. Dance to nostalgic music of the '30s, '40s and '50s, played on the museum's restored 1946 Seeburg "Trashcan" jukebox. Come in period costume (optional), enjoy food from Ming's Restaurant, wines donated by Fogarty and Beltramo's and live and silent auctions. The Future Brain Cancer Institute presents the Amitie Ensemble tonight at 7:30 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave. (Middlefield Rd.) in Palo Alto. Doors open at 7 p.m. The program will include works by Borodin, Mozart and pieces from around the world. Following the performance there will be a complimentary reception and a chance to meet the musicians. Preferred seating is available at $60 per ticket and general seating is $25/ticket.
