The 41st annual Kings Mountain Art Fair will take place this weekend in Woodside.
"Bambi do Pantanal," a 1997 photograph by Vania Toledo, is on display at the Palo Alto Art Center. It is part of the "From Brazil: Palmo Quadrado & Indigenous Arts from the Amazon Basin" exhibition, which runs through Sept. 5.
Thursday
"A Little Princess" will run through Sept. 19 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. Presented by TheatreWorks, the show is based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's treasured novel. "A Little Princess" chronicles the life of Sara Crewe, the daughter of a wealthy gentleman whose charmed life takes a dramatic turn when her father is tragically killed in action. Additional show times are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. (Sept. 7 only); Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 8 p.m. (additional 2 p.m. performances Sept. 4 and 18); Sundays at 2 p.m. (7 p.m. only on Sept. 12). "Large Works" will be on display through Sept. 29 at the Pacific Art League, 668 Ramona St. in Palo Alto. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reception will take place on Sept. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. "Under One Sky," a retrospective of works by Margo Davis, will be on display through Sept. 30 at the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery. The exhibition represents 40 years of global portrait-making by Davis, a Palo Alto-based photographer. The gallery, located at 419 Lausuen Mall on the Stanford campus, is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information please call (650) 723-3404.
Gallery House will present new paintings by Janice Wilson through Sept. 18. The 41st annual Kings Mountain Art Fair will take place today, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kings Mountain Community Center/Fire Station, 13889 Skyline Blvd. in Woodside. Breakfast under the redwoods will begin at 8 a.m. The fair is a juried multi-media show restricted to 135 artists, with the works of 25 "mountain" artists also included. A variety of media is represented: paintings, sculpture, collage, photography, jewelry, glass, quilts, hand-crafted toys, weathervanes and more. Admission is free. "Question" will be on display through Jan. 2 at the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University. This experimental project is designed to provoke and address questions frequently asked by visitors about art and its presentation in museums. "From Brazil: Palmo Quadrado & Indigenous Arts from the Amazon Basin," will run through Sept. 5 at the Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Road. The exhibition includes works on paper and photographs created by 46 contemporary Brazilian artists. Admission is free. "Watercolors: California and Kauai," featuring works by Barbara von Haunalter, will run through Sept. 26 at Portola Valley Art Gallery. The gallery is also currently featuring "Thrown and Altered Stoneware Vessels" by Jean Prophet.
