"The Crowd" (silent, 1928) This famous silent film displays a remarkable combination of poetry and social realism in depicting the life of a quite ordinary man and his family in New York City. Wed. at 7:30 p.m.
"Our Daily Bread" (1934) Director King Vidor's intention with "Our Daily Bread" was to follow the couple from "The Crowd" through the difficult times of the Great Depression. Unemployed and broke, John and Mary leave the big city to try to make a living as farmers -- something they are completely ignorant of. Wed. at 9:15 p.m.
"Peyton Place" (1957) Secrets and scandal simmer below the seemingly placid surface of a small New England town. Starring Lana Turner. Thu. at 7:30 p.m.
"The Long, Hot Summer" (1958) The powerful patriarch of a small southern town takes a liking to a shady drifter (Paul Newman). He encourages a relationship between the drifter and his daughter (Joanne Woodward), who rebels against his manipulations -- despite her attraction. Also starring Orson Welles and Angela Lansbury. Thu. at 5:20 & 10:15 p.m.
