Margaret and Walter Barret
Palo Alto natives Margaret J. and Walter M. Barret III celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 15.
The Barrets have lived in Palo Alto for 80 years . Walter was a Palo Alto Sea Scout and a first mate in the merchant marines during World War II. He was an office manager and accountant at Stan Truedson and at Don Young's Automotive.
Margaret has been an active volunteer with the Palo Alto auxiliary of the Allied Arts Guild, the Roth auxiliary at the Children's Hospital and the Palo Alto Family YMCA. She was a cosmetician for 40 years at Stanley Bishop's California Avenue pharmacy.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with several small gatherings of family and friends and a trip to Cooperstown, N.Y., to watch their 12-year-old grandson play in the Cooperstown Little League Baseball Tournament. The couple has two children, Patricia and Walt, and three grandchildren, Nadine, Brian and Kyle.
