LABOR DAY TRADITION . . . The 41st annual Kings Mountain Art Fair will be held Saturday through Monday, Sept. 4-6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kings Mountain Community Center, 13889 Skyline Blvd., Woodside. More than 130 artists were selected for the juried show, which is a fund raiser for the Kings Mountain Fire Department and other local charities.
SEEKING IRIS RHIZONES? . . . Just in time for fall planting, the Westbay Iris Society will be selling iris rhizomes at a discount at the De Anza Flea Market on Saturday, Sept. 4, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lot B, Row D, Spaces 37 and 38. The market is located at De Anza College Campus Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, on parking lots A and B. Entry is free, but parking is $5 per vehicle. SIZE MATTERS . . . Thinking of building a new house? Hidden Villa is planning a workshop to deal with reducing the environmental impact of large houses on Friday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hostel, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. The workshop, which is co-sponsored by San Mateo RecycleWorks, includes a green building tour. How to achieve green priorities -- saving energy and water, and reducing waste -- through project design and construction will be covered. Speakers include Jennifer Roberts, author of "Good Green Homes: Creating Better Homes for a Healthier Planet"; green architect Andrea Traber; general contractor Bruce Hammond; and Jill Boone, green building program manager, County of San Mateo.
