CHILDRESS SIGNS . . . Former Stanford men's basketball All-American Josh Childress signed a three-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks worth nearly $7 million. The Hawks drafted Childress in the first round of the NBA draft, the sixth pick overall. He's the highest Stanford player taken in the draft. Stanford was 74-21 in the three years Childress was with the Cardinal. He finishes with 1,061 points collegiate points.

OF LOCAL NOTE . . . Palo Alto resident Daniela Barnea won all seven swimming events she entered at last weekend's Pacific Masters Championships at UC Santa Cruz, setting records in five of them in the women's 60-64 age bracket. The biggest mark came in the 200-meter butterfly, where Barnea set a national masters record of 3:29.37. That broke the previous record of 3:32.87 set in 1996. Barnea also set Pacific Masters records while winning the 50-meter breast, 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 fly and 200 fly. She also won the 50 fly and 400 IM. Barnea next will compete in the National Masters Championships next month in Savannah, Ga. . . . Gunn High grad Tom Blake will join Palo Alto grads James McCluskey and Nathan Taber in the 30th annual Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game on Tuesday at San Jose City College. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. The game features many of the top graduating players from last season. Blake is a 6-4, 235-pound tight end/outside linebacker headed for UC Davis this fall. He will serve as one of the team captains for the North squad. Joining him on the North will be McCluskey, a 6-1, 245-pound defensive lineman and Taber, a 6-2, 280-pound offensive lineman.

NATIONAL BASEBALL . . . The United States national baseball team continues a four-game series with Chinese Taipei in Durham, N.C. through Sunday. Team USA (8-5) won its last two games, 19-2 over Danburry, and 4-2 over Deane. Stanford junior John Mayberry, Jr. was 3-for-6 in the two games, including a home run. Stanford junior Jed Lowrie was 1-for-4 against Deene.

COACHING CORNER . . . Castilleja School is looking for coaches for the upcoming season in varsity cross country, JV water polo, JV tennis, varsity track and field in addition to an assistant coach for swimming. Interested persons should contact Athletic Director Jez McIntosh at Jez_mcIntosh@castilleja.org . . . Woodside Priory School is looking for a boys' junior varsity and girls' varsity soccer coach. ON TRACK . . . The 26th annual Los Gatos Summer All-Comer Track and Field meets will be held every Thursday evening through August 12 at Los Gatos High. The pole vault begins at 5 p.m., while the rest of the field events will commence at 5:30 and running events start at 6 p.m. There are five divisions: open, high school, women, masters, and kids under seven. There is a $4 entry free and a $2 charge for spectators.
