GOT A PROBLEM? . . . Master Gardener Plant Clinics are held monthly at Gamble Garden Center, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto, where you can bring in samples of ailing greenery and find out just what's bugging your plants. Upcoming clinics are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11.
BLAST FROM THE PAST . . . Plant historian and horticulturist Peggy Cornett will talk about "Antique Annuals and Flowers from Our Past" on Thursday, July 15, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. Cornett, who is director of the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants at Monticello, will talk about why certain plants have been popular over time and offer a perspective on preserving the floral past. Fee is $20 for non-members, $15 for members. Other classes this week at Filoli include "Family Fun with Flowers -- Summer Cutting Garden Arrangements," Wednesday July 14, 10:30 a.m. to noon ($45 per one adult and one child between 5 and 12). Common Ground and Village Harvest are offering a clinic on fruit-tree harvesting, including ladder-less harvesting techniques and tool selection, on Saturday, July 24, from noon to 4 p.m. The free clinic includes a free preserve tasting of goodies from Village Harvest.
