JCC dream
As longtime residents of Palo Alto (since 1960), members of the Jewish Community Center (since 1992) and living just off Louis and Charleston roads, we have followed the ups and downs of the future of the JCC.
We are familiar with all the opposition (vocal and written) and the snail pace of city processes. So it was really a delight to read the story by Bill D'Agostino (Weekly, June 16). It was the first good news we've heard since we got booted out of the Terman campus.
At our age, my husband and I don't know if we'll ever get to see the proposed facilities, but we're optimists and hope to read more good news about the dream becoming reality.

Energy bust
When you look at the energy bills being promoted by the Bush administration, you have to wonder if President Bush is giving special favors to his friends in the oil business, like Halliburton.
The bills give giant oil and nuclear companies billions of dollars in tax breaks -- while throwing peanuts at projects promoting clean and renewable energy.
This is a mistake. Special-interest groups should not dictate our country's energy policy.

Is this Palo Alto?
First our city tried to close a library to make a bigger police station. Now it wants to trade a park for a dump.
I don't think we're Palo Alto anymore.
What is this berg and what has it done with Palo Alto? Dudes, I want my city back.

Air show musings
I already "enjoy the nature around the shore and the true creatures of the air."
That is, until the next air show.

What Kerry can say
Among all the tributes to Ronald Reagan, many in the media were recounting the story of how he basically blew Jimmy Carter away in their only debate with just two questions: "Are you better off than you were four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was?"
Is there anything more John Kerry needs to say?
