JUNIOR TENNIS . . . Recent Menlo-Atherton High grad Hilary Englert reached the quarterfinals of the USTA NorCal 18 girls Sectional Championships with a victory over Bryce Kristal at the Berkeley Tennis Club. Atherton resident Cynthia Kitch lost to fifth-seeded Denise Dy in the round of 16. Menlo School grad Scott Blumenkranz remained alive in the consolation of the boys' tournament, which continues through Sunday . . . Atherton resident Daniel Hoffman and Menlo Park's Max Glenn both reached the semifinals of the USTA NorCal 12 Sectional Championships in boys singles action at the Sierra Racquet Club in Fresno. Hoffman, the top seed, beat Daniel McCall while No. 5 seed Glenn topped Daniel Britt. Palo Alto resident Jamin Ball continues play on the consolation bracket. Glenn and Hoffman are also in the semifinals of the doubles tournament . . . Menlo Park's Jamie Hutter won in the round of 16 at the USTA NorCal 14 Sectional Championships at Seascape Sports Club in Aptos. He joins his doubles partner, Adam Davison in the quarterfinals. Hutter and Davison reached the semifinals in doubles action . . .In recently concluded tournament action, Menlo Park's John Parsons defeated Campbell's Jimmy Manning, 6-3, 6-0, to win the boys 12 singles title at the Yuba City Junior Open, while Palo Alto resident Samuel Wong beat James Hansen, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3, to win the boys 12 singles title at the Union City Novice tournament. Portola Valley's Jessica Ebert reached the title match of the girls 16 singles bracket before losing to top-seeded Stephanie Lemp, 6-0, 6-1. The unseeded Ebert beat No. 2 seed Nicole Yu to reach the championship. Portola Valley's Alex Heaney reached the championship match in the girls 12 singles bracket before losing to Half Moon Bay's Katherine Murakami. Heaney beat Morgan Miller, 6-0, 6-4, in the semifinals. Palo Alto High grad Kate Cooper placed third at the Green Valley Junior Challenger, while Menlo Park's Mary Closs won the girls 8 singles title with a victory over San Ramon's Rickimae Torres at the Oakland City Junior Challenger at the Laney Tennis Center.

OF LOCAL NOTE . . . The 26th annual Los Gatos Summer All-Comer Track and Field meets will be held every Thursday evening between June 24th and August 12th at Los Gatos High. The pole vault begins at 5 p.m., while the rest of the field events will commence at 5:30 and running events start at 6 p.m. There are five divisions: open, high school, women, masters, and kids under seven. There is a four dollar entry free and a two dollar charge for spectators . . . The Stanford Water Polo Club has begun a new 11-under program for girls beginning. Practices are Monday through Thursday, 2:45-4 p.m. at Menlo College. To sign up for one of the few remaining spots, visit www.stanfordwaterpolo.com for forms and further information . . . The Union Football Club, a Palo Alto-based CYSA soccer program for girls U10-19, Class 1 and Class 3 levels, will hold tryouts in June. BANK OF THE WEST . . . Individual tickets for the Bank of the West Classic are on sale. The Classic, a WTA Tour Tier II event, will be held July 12-18 at the Taube Tennis Stadium on Stanford's campus. Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport have committed early to compete at Stanford. Williams won the title in 2000 and 2002 and Davenport won in 1998 and 1999. Williams missed last year's tournament with a strained abdominal muscle. Tickets are priced between $10-$80 per session and are available through City Box Office at 1-415-392-4400 or through Tickets.com at (650) 478-2277. Day sessions Monday through Thursday begin at 10 a.m. and Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m. Evening sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday's final is scheduled for 1 p.m.
