Bring a picnic. Enjoy some twilight dancing. Sunday, July 25, 3-4:30 p.m. Film Screening of "I Was Born a Black Woman (Nasci Mulher Negra)" Producer Kit Miller will speak about the making of this award-winning documentary, which recounts the story of Benedita da Silva, Brazil's first Afro-Brazilian woman Senator. Born into poverty, she triumphs through her commitment to her faith, her education and her community. (44 min) Auditorium Sunday, Aug. 1, 2-4 p.m. Frevo and Maracatu: Carnaval In Pernambuco Presented by Brasarte Be part of the Maracatu, a Carnaval group in the Northeast state of Pernambuco. Learn movement and percussion for Frevo, an acrobatic dance mixing rhythms of maxixe, modinha, polka, and tango, using umbrellas as props. Bring a percussion instrument. Auditorium Sunday, Aug. 8, 1 p.m. Churrasco In the Courtyard Presented by Ronda Priestner The famous Brazilian barbeque complete with soup, condiments and desserts. (Limited to 50 participants. Courtyard and Kitchen Sunday, Aug. 8, 3-4 p.m. Latin American Chamber Music Society and Fraguimentos Da Vida The Brazilian silent film classic, "Fraguimentos da Vida," will be shown with live accompaniment from the Latin American Chamber Music Society. Auditorium Sunday, Aug 15, 2-4 p.m. Discovering Amazonia Presented by Brasarte A slide show of the captivating natural beauty of Amazonia will be followed by an introduction to some traditional objects of the region as well as a workshop of indigenous movement and rhythms. Auditorium Sunday, Aug. 22, 3-4:30 p.m. Capoeira and Maculele Presented by Brazil Culture and Arts Witness the acrobatic movement of Capoeira and Maculele. At the same time, a dance, a martial art and a social event, they have a rich history and tradition. Feijoada, Brazil's National Dish Cooking demonstration by Ronda Priestner Noon-1 p.m., kitchen After a taste of Brazil's national dish, feijoada, join in the Carnaval Parade at the Art Center.
