ON THE DIAMOND . . . The Redwood City Blues Post 105 American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Half Moon Bay on Sunday at Menlo College. Tony Sackman collected four hits and drove in four runs as the Blues beat Half Moon Bay, 22-1, in the second game. Redwood City lost the first game, 4-3, when Half Moon Bay scored twice in the seventh. Menlo School grad Chuck Huggins was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out 10 in four innings. Andrew Thompson had two hits and drove in five runs, while Garrett Anderson added three hits. Redwood City improved to 5-1 in league play, 9-2 overall . . . The Palo Alto Oaks swept a doubleheader from the East Bay A's, 19-0 and 15-1, on Sunday in Western Baseball Association Stan Musial Division action at Baylands. Palo Alto grad Colby Henard was the beneficiary of the first game offensive explosive as he threw a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. Gabe Duran hit a grand slam in the first game, and then added a homer among his four hits in the second game. Jimmy Goethals had three hits and drove in four runs in the first game.

NOTEWORTHY . . . Stanford diver Cassidy Krug reached the semifinals of the Olympic Diving Team Trials in St. Peter's, Missouri over the weekend. Krug finished 10th with a score of 469.59 after scoring a 269.07 in the preliminaries . . . A couple of local golfers - Menlo Park's Brett Giuralani and Palo Alto's Will Hydon -- will be among the 78 players from Northern California to compete in the California Golf Association State Amateur tournament beginning June 21 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach. A total of 156 players, another 78 from Southern California, will take part in the tournament.

OF LOCAL NOTE . . . The Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce will host its annual best-ball golf tournament on Monday, June 21 at Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club. The tournament will benefit the Palo Alto Foundation for Education, a non-profit organization that supports local Palo Alto schools. Cost is $250 per player, including a round of golf, refreshments, a barbeque lunch, a sit-down dinner at 5:30 p.m., tee gifts, a silent auction and a raffle. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. For information about sponsorship and registration, call the tournament organizers at 324-3121 . . . The 26th annual Los Gatos Summer All-Comer Track and Field meets will be held every Thursday evening between June 24th and August 12th at Los Gatos High. The pole vault begins at 5 p.m., while the rest of the field events will commence at 5:30 and running events start at 6 p.m. There are five divisions: open, high school, women, masters, and kids under seven. There is a four dollar entry free and a two dollar charge for spectators . . . The Stanford Water Polo Club will begin a new 11-under program for girls beginning June 14. The Union Football Club, a Palo Alto-based CYSA soccer program for girls U10-19, Class 1 and Class 3 levels, will hold tryouts in June. BANK OF THE WEST . . . Individual tickets for the Bank of the West Classic are now on sale. The Classic, a WTA Tour Tier II event, will be held July 12-18 at the Taube Tennis Stadium on Stanford's campus. Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport have committed early to compete at Stanford. Williams won the title in 2000 and 2002 and Davenport won in 1998 and 1999. Williams missed last year's tournament with a strained abdominal muscle. Tickets are priced between $10-$80 per session and are available through City Box Office at 1-415-392-4400 or through Tickets.com at (650) 478-2277. Day sessions Monday through Thursday begin at 10 a.m. and Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m. Evening sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday's final is scheduled for 1 p.m.
